How to do it
- Sit in the back extension machine with the pad resting across your upper back and your feet secured, and set the range-of-motion stop if the machine has one.
- Grip the handles or cross your arms, then push back against the pad by extending your spine and hips until your torso is in line with your thighs.
- Pause briefly, then return forward under control to the starting position without letting the weight stack slam down.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, moving smoothly and without jerking.
